Dua Lipa is having quite the year. She teamed up with Martin Garrix for their “Scared To Be Lonely” collaboration, released her debut album, and even conceived a hit of her own with “New Rules.” Oh, and let’s not forget that she hit the road with both Coldplay AND Bruno Mars this year… not too shabby, right?
After changing her occupation from “model” to “singer,” Dua Lipa signed with Warner Music Group in 2015. She had a string of singles shortly after signing… “New Love,” “Be The One,” “Last Dance,” “Hotter Than Hell,” and “Blow Your Mind (Mwah).” “Blow Your Mind (Mwah)” became Dua’s first song to chart in the U.S. (#72 on the Billboard Hot 100), but it was her team up with Sean Paul last year that made Dua the overnight ‘it girl.’
So what is it about Dua Lipa that makes her stand out in a crowd? Like her fellow Albanian Bebe Rexha, Dua has a VERY distinct voice. When “Scared To Be Lonely” dropped, collaborator Martin Garrix stated, “With Dua [Lipa], I had never met her in real life but I had this song called ‘Scared to Be Lonely’ and I really wanted [her to sing] a duet to be on the record because I loved her voice.”
Aside from that voice, Dua Lipa can write and has aligned herself with the right people. Most recently, she’s been spotted with super-producers like Flume and Diplo and getting praise from fellow singers like Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes.
So what’s next for Dua? According to Warner Bros U.K. President Phil Christie, “We’ve got at least another two singles to come off this record, which is a testament to the quality of the album.”
