22-year-old Aussie-native turned Los Angelino Jess Kent dropped by the Adorama Live Theater at 92.3 AMP Radio this week to chat with DJ Niko about music, life, and her home country during a Facebook LIVE session on our StubHub stage.
Back in December of 2016, Jess had the chance to open up for British rockers Coldplay during the South Pacific/Australian leg of their ‘A Head Full of Dreams Tour’ and is already slated to open for them on the Asian leg of the tour in March and April of 2017.
“Yeah that happened, that was cool and surreal.”
“Coldplay Tweeted the video that they found, because it was kind of going around YouTube and Facebook, of course, and they Tweeted it out and then they were comng to Australia — so they asked us to be on their Australia/New Zealand/South Pacific tour and we were like ‘Yeah, I think we’re free,” laughed Jess.
Jess admits she was just looking to write songs and get some hometown shows when she first stared in the music scene — but that quickly turned into a much bigger deal — all with a simple Tweet from Coldplay.
“I started writing songs first,” Jess explains to Niko. “I was kind of hoping, while in Australia, that I could play some shows, connect with a few people and have some fun. That would be great. Genuinely that was the starting point.
“Then we put up a lyric video, kind of like an emoji video… because I was like, ‘I don’t have a music video’ … and it kind of by happy mistake turned into the [official] video at the time.”
Niko and Jess also got a little silly at the end of the interview as Niko dove deep into her Aussie background to find out just how Australian Jess is…
