The life of a headliner: Spending long days in the city du jour is par for the course for many of today’s DJs as they wait out their late-night sets in hotel rooms, restaurants and other spots that have gradually become familiar over years spent on the road.
For some, these hang-out spots are held dear to their hearts — while others know fully well they have a favorite place, they just can’t seem to remember the name. That was certainly the case when 92.3 AMP Radio’s Astra asked Oliver Lee and James Carter of Snakehips today during our AMP Live Session on our StubHub stage in the Adorama Live Theater.
Snakehips just arrived in the Big Apple after recording their Jimmy Kimmel appearance with MØ (airing April 10th) and their epic party at Red Bull Studios in Los Angeles. When asked about their favorite places in NYC to haunt, the guys quickly remember Brooklyn nightclub Output — but promptly forget the names of everything else. “That Output club is always fun, we’ve been there a few times,” said James.
“There’s a bunch of places that I can’t remember the names of that we always go to,” Oliver jumped in anticlimactically. So, the guys described them to the best of their abilities: “Like… pizza, loud music, beer.”
Pizza, always a staple for visitors to New York, is definitely on their minds. Although there’s always time for a slice, the guys we’re pizza-free before the interview, but that’s all about to change… probably. Or not at all. This line of questioning was pretty hilarious, try to follow along:
Astra: “Have you had pizza since you landed?”
Astra: “Are you having pizza after you leave here?”
Snakehips: “Yes… yeah… tonight… (shrugs) probably.”
Astra: “Listen, you can’t leave here without having pizza.”
Snakehips: “We’ll do it!”
Astra: “It’s like you can’t leave L.A. without having In-N-Out.”
Snakehips: “Yeah, we did that.”
Astra: “Right? Exactly!”
Snakehips: “No, I mean we left without having it!”
