Alicia Keys: “We are all blended in so many different ways”

92.3 AMP Radio morning hosts Shoboy & Nina had a chance to talk to Alicia Keys in the Adorama Live Theatre on the StubHub Stage in front of a live studio audience.

Just a few days before her 36th birthday, Alicia, a New York City native reminisced about one of her favorite birthday memories, going rollerskating with friends and her accident-prone brother for her ninth birthday. Even though he crashed into the mirror, she remembers the good vibes.

“Believe it or not, my husband can skate,” Alicia said with a smile about Swizz Beatz, talking about how she still enjoys skating with him to this day. “Like, for real skate… he’s mean… and his brothers are even better!”

“We [recently] went to this spot in Newark. We loved it, we had a ball. And they were in there killin’ it.”

Back in November, Shoboy had a chance to talk with Alicia and mentioned he had a baby on the way — who has since arrived — something Alicia can certainly relate to. When Alicia and Shoboy met today, she genuinely and hilariously asked him, “Why are your eyes so red?”

“When you have babies… no more sleep no more! Bye-bye,” Alicia laughed.

Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys’ Son Egypt Drops Piano Freestyle

Alicia and Swizz’s son Egypt, who is now 6-years-old, has already dropped his own freestyle AND produced a track for Kendrick Lamar.

“He’s great, he’s loving the music,” she proudly says. “Him and his brother kind of make up different songs, and he wrote a new song that somehow got everywhere, called ‘Super-Boy.’ He’s adorable man, he’s just the cutest!”

Alicia’s latest album, Here, which was released on November 4, 2016, features the single “Blended Family (What You Do For Love)”, the lyrics of which discuss a growing reality in the U.S. which often goes unexamined.

“I love the song so much,” Alicia says, “because we are all blended in so many different ways and I think that especially now obviously with Obama’s speech last night, and just really recognizing… how he spoke about putting yourself in other people’s shoes so that you can really understand.”

“That is also being blended and being able to be understanding and seeing each other for who we are.”
