Camila Cabello on the Election: ‘Immigration is What This Country was Built On’

By Brian Ives

Fifth Harmony’s Camila Cabello has been putting her efforts behind getting young people to vote in tomorrow’s presidential election, including working with MTV on their “Total Registration Live” initiative.

She spoke to Radio.com about this very subject, during an interview about her new song with Machine Gun Kelly, “Bad Things.”

“I just feel a huge responsibility , because my family and I, specifically, are so personally connected to a lot of issues around immigration,” she says, referencing her Cuban heritage. “To hear stories like ours being spoken about with such disdain… immigration is what this country was built on. Ignorance is the main thing that I’ve been disappointed with in this election. There are so many ‘facts’ that are false, and there are things that people believe out of fear.”

While Cabello has been outspoken in her support of Hillary Clinton, she hopes everyone gets out and votes, regardless of who they support.

“Not everybody is going to take the path that I hope that they do, but all we can do is to encourage everyone to vote and to be informed. It’s so amazing that we have the power to vote, not every country has that.”
