Lady Gaga Explains Meaning Behind ‘Perfect Illusion’ and What Surprised Her Most About Bradley Cooper

With her brand new single ‘Perfect Illusion’ going #1 on iTunes not only in the US, but in 60 countries, Lady Gaga sat down with Shoboy and Nina to talk new music and to celebrate the sixth year anniversary of her completely cleaning up the VMAs and taking home EIGHT moon men.

‘Perfect Illusion’ is the first solo single Gaga has given her little monsters since her last album three years ago, but she hasn’t had a break. She toured the world with Tony Bennett and starred in the last season of FX’s ‘American Horror Story’, “It was so exhausting.”

While reminiscing on her eight moonmen win at the VMAs exactly six years ago, which, by the way, was the ‘meat dress’ night, Gaga expressed how every day is such a blessing, “All of the awards or prizes, they’re not nearly as amazing as the blessing that is to have fans and to have a voice in the world and to be able to help other people and spread positive messages.” But to her fans, it’s more than just the music. It’s her inspiration and empowerment and that’s why Gaga hopes that her little monsters are more connected to her through her new music, “On this album, more than any of my other albums, it’s not a concept record. Each song is it’s own story that is from my life and is autobiographical, but it’s still really fun.”

Many people have their own take on what they think ‘Perfect Illusion’ is about in regards to Gaga’s life and, thankfully, she cleared it up for all of us, “It’s sort of an expectance of your anger about love and where you have failed, where someone else has failed, and how it really sucks when love doesn’t work out because love is the most beautiful thing and it’s the best drug in the world. There’s nothing more amazing than thinking you’re falling in love or being in love and when that breaks or dissipates and the illusion goes away, there’s a part of us that is just so confused.” She also explained that it’s not only about what our relationship was, but what it is now and how hard it is to date and love when we are constantly consumed by social media. Lucky for her, Gaga hasn’t experienced that kind of “love”.

With her fifth solo studio album dropping soon (we hope), we have yet to hear about an album title. But Lady Gaga told us that she knows the name of the album, but wants to keep it a secret for now, “I will say that it’s a very personal title and that it’s a personal album.”

Lady Gaga is not only starring in the new season of ‘American Horror Story’, but is also starring alongside Bradley Cooper in ‘A Star Is Born’. While working with him, there was one thing that actually surprised her, “I didn’t expect for us to be real friends. He’s just such a normal, cool dude, but he’s a genius.” Gaga also likes how Bradley fights for what he wants, just like how to he fought for her to have this role in the movie.

Before Gaga left, Shoboy and Nina played a little game called “Perfect Illusion/Perfect Reality”. Basically, would Lady Gaga do these things one day — or is it just wishful thinking?

  • Performing at the Super Bowl Halftime show – “Yeah, absolutely I would,” said Gaga.
  • Running for President of the United States – “That’s a perfect illusion,” says Gaga. Even though Kanye West said he was going to run in 2020? “Also a perfect illusion,” she smiled.
  • And finally, can she see herself married with kids in the next five years? “Yeah, perfect reality.”
