When Swedish DJ/producer Avicii (Tim Berg) recently dropped by the AMP studios in NYC, he spoke about why exactly he chose the Zac Brown Band front man to sing vocals on his latest single, “Broken Arrows.”
“I’ve been a fan of Zac’s for maybe three years,” Berg told 92.3’s Astra. “I heard about him first through my manager and then I started kind of checking him out.”
“We’ve been meaning to do something with him for a long time,” Berg explained. “It was just a matter of whether I was going to release another ‘House/Folk’ or ‘House/Country-esque’ song. Because I just released ‘Wake Me Up’ and ‘Hey Brother’ — those were the ones I released — I had maybe twenty other ones that I made, still in my hard drive, so I was kind of looking for other genres.”
But since it took him so long to release his latest effort, Stories, Avicii felt it was the right time to offer up another track with the same feel that fans have grown to love.
“By the end of it, it was like two years later, and at that point it didn’t really matter — I could start making some Country/House again. And then it was just super-natural to ask Zac. We had the ‘Broken Arrows’ demo, we sent it to him, he loved it… and it just kind of happened.”
